Featured in another image, the plastic toy tank engine was found at a toy fair in bad shape. Some of the rudimentary detail resembled parts of the USA tank and were used as a basis to fabricate a model that has never been readily available. A brass chassis was constructed featuring the correct close coupled axles and supporting a quality 5 pole motor with 60:1 worm gearing. The motion was all hand made and the tricky part was to make working linkage to the oilers on the right front side. The shelter is all plastic parts but the low relief buildings are all card and made to fit around the chimney breast, painted blue! The water crane is an exact copy of the item on the platform at Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park. Even the bucket is correct. Note also the Dinky Toy converted into a Leyland bus in Southdown livery. |
