The turntable featured here was a prototype built more than 20 years ago and offers fully automatic alignment of the bridge with any adjacent track, a scale speed of rotation, almost silent running with control needing only 1 rotary switch. This was considered to be the most user friendly system imaginable. A revised turntable has now been developed by Magrathean Models and offers similar features but utilises an optical position sensing system and more compact geared motor drive. The unit pictured was totally scratch built, mostly from scraps of metal, wire, plastic, card and wood. The modern replacement has the mechanism concealed in a tray under the baseboard and will allow the use of any available kit such as Peco as the scenic section.
